The Fight Against Ridiculous Taxes
5¢ for the Right to use Plastic Bags???
Already credited with voting “no” more times than any other member of the Council, Vincent Ignizio was proud to lead the charge to shelf a vote on a tax that would place a 5¢ charge on the use of plastic bags at your local supermarket, pharmacy or deli.
Calling the tax, a “sneaky way to bilk the middle class” and “another reason for people to abandon Staten Island’s businesses,” Ignizio was able to lead the Council in discarding this unnecessary measure that would add costs to New York City resident’s weekly grocery and shopping bills.
In other tax news, Councilman Ignizio is pleased to report that this year’s budget will maintain the City’s policy of not charging sales tax on clothing purchase s under $110. This measure is important to Staten Islanders, as well as local businesses who are trying to remain viable against their out-of-state competitors.
