Library Cuts Averted
Despite downturn in revenue, South Shore’s libraries to remain open 6-days a week.
Councilman Vincent Ignizio is pleased to announce the restoration of money to the New York Public Library. Initial budget proposals included a drastic reduction in operating revenue that would cut the library from six to five days a week. The final budget, that was passed by the City Council on June 19th includes the restoration of these funds.
The libraries of the South Shore, like those around the city, are seeing their highest number of annual visitors, as more people are turning to free books and movie rentals as a way to save their household money. Among the libraries that will remain open are:
Tottenville 7430 Amboy Road, 718-984-0945
Huguenot 830 Huguenot Ave, 718-984-4636
Great Kills 56 Giffords Lane, 718-984-6670
Richmondtown 200 Clarke Ave. 718-668-0413
